About Us
Mission:
The mission of Alamance County Meals On Wheels, Inc. (ACMOW) is to provide in-home services in Alamance County to improve the quality of life for seniors and their families. The agency provides two services, home-delivered meals and a grocery delivery program. The programs provided by ACMOW are designed to improve and enhance quality of life; nourish the body, mind, and spirit; and promote independent living.
History:
Alamance County Meals on Wheels was formed on May 20, 1973 as Alamance County Council on Elderly, Inc. Over the years, the agency has offered hot home-delivered meals, frozen home-delivered meals, bad weather emergency meals, weekend meals, homemaker services, and a grocery assistance program. The agency began serving clients in February of 1974 and became a United Way agency in 1975. The First Presbyterian Church of Burlington has graciously housed the offices of ACMOW since its inception. The agency began delivering only one route, serving a few people, and now serves about 400 people each day on 25 different hot and frozen meal routes. ACMOW currently provides Groceries on Wheels, a program that matches volunteers with clients who need someone to grocery shop for them.
